Yorke Lodge
50 London Road, Canterbury, Kent, CT2 8LF, EnglandA generous welcome in the city of Canterbury
The O’Shea family have run Yorke Lodge B&B for the last 20 years – and their experience shows in the quality and comfort of every en-suite guest bedroom, every freshly prepared breakfast and every aspect of this city-centre haven.
There are nine guest bedrooms at Yorke Lodge. All are en-suite and individually configured to accommodate every need: there is a single room, a selection of doubles, twins and four-poster options, and several rooms – including one on the ground-floor – that can comfortably sleep three. All rooms are supplied with extra large white fluffy towels and bathrobes, flat-screen TVs, hospitality trays and luxury toiletries – and there is superfast wifi throughout.
You’re not confined to your room here. There’s a comfortable sitting room for guests and a large and fully-enclosed walled garden. The property was built in 1887 by a Canterbury pharmacist as a quintessentially Victorian Villa: at the same time he also built three more houses in a rank to accommodate his three daughters and each is slightly different, with their individual character: period features abound.
Breakfasts are served in a large and well-lit dining room, spilling out into the garden when the weather is kind. Ingredients are fresh and locally-sourced, with a range of continental and traditional cooked options on offer.
Parking can be tricky in Canterbury. Yorke Lodge has some complimentary off-street parking, and there is also street parking close by.
The lodge is perfectly set a ten-minute stroll from the medieval city centre: this is far enough to avoid the noise of a busy urban hub but close enough to make it easy to explore on foot. It’s on the north side of the city by Kent University, St Edmunds School and Kent College. Clean well-behaved dogs are welcome (up to two per room) by arrangement, as are children over the age of two.

It is easy to find if arriving by car and is near Kent University, St Edmunds School and Kent College. The beaches of Whitstable and Herne Bay are a fifteen minute-drive to the north, while the city is cradled by the Kent Downs AONB and any number of stately homes and castles.Reviews
"Fantastic find! Great location, parking on site, absolutely spotless establishment. We were welcomed so warmly, and were blown away by the comfortable and stylish surroundings. Our room overlooking the garden was large, and spotlessly clean - as was the modern ensuite. Vicky (the Proprietor) is amazing, as are all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We will definitely be back!" Carol 0410, August 2022Accreditations
