Underhill Barn

Underhill Barn is a stylish B&B with two guest suites in a stunning conversion of a 19th century barn in East Devon, offering the ultimate in luxury and contemporary comforts in a beautifully rural setting. All set around a secluded courtyard, perfect for convivial evenings.

Accommodation is in two guest suites, with ensuite bathrooms and independent living areas, beautifully designed and furnished. The Terrace Suite has it’s own terrace and independent access to Underhill Barn’s sunny courtyward, a large ensuite bathroom with twin sinks, a double-ended bath and a separate shower, and exclusive use of Underhill Barn’s elegant library. The Courtyard Suite has views over the courtyard to the rolling Southleigh Hills, a renovated ensuite bathroom and a large prvate gallery reception area, where a sofa and desk means you can spread yourself out.

Both suites are impeccaby kitted out. Beds are by Hypnos and can be configured as twin or superkingsized beds. Duvets and pillows are stuffed with Hungarian goose down, linens are 400 threadcount Egyptian cotton, bathroom mirrors are heated and waffle bathrobes provided. Tea trays are complemented by Nespresso coffee machines. Both share use of Underhill Barn’s dedicated guest sitting room and there’s wifi throughout.

Breakfasts are served until 10:15 each morning and are something of an Underhill Barn highlight: four-course feasts, all ordered in advance and cooked to perfection. Ingredients are local and the range of breakfast options extend well beyond a standard Full English, with imaginative combinations of home-made special recipes, and all dietary requirements can be catered for. Breakfasts are generally served in Underhill’s elegant dining room, but on sunny mornings they can be taken in Underhill’s own courtyard, a sheltered suntrap that’s also a great place to enjoy long summer evenings.

Step out and Underhill Barn has a pretty garden but also a wilder half-acre of wildflower meadows, with the rolling slopes of the Colyton Valley, a leading AONB, on every side. The B&B doesn’t take children under 16 or any visiting dogs, so the atmosphere is invariably calm, sophisticated and relaxed.
