Flowers and friends just outside Malmesbury

Bullocks Horn Cottage dates back 200 years which has been extended by Colin and Liz. The house is situated up a no-through three-quarter mile lane and is surrounded by fields on both sides. It has one acre of cottage garden and has been featured in various garden magazines.

Guest accommodation is in three bedrooms: one double, one twin and a single. The twin has an ensuite bathroom. The double has a superking bed that can be made up as two twins. This has a private shower room next door that can be shared with the single: only one of these rooms can be booked at any one time unless for groups of friends travelling together who don’t mind sharing their bathroom.

There is a lovely drawing room with an open fire in the winter and a conservatory for breakfast and dining in the evening. There is also an arbour in the garden for breakfast and supper in the summer – weather permitting. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, with no children under 12 or dogs permitted.

The garden is very much a highlight, blazing with colour through the summer months. There are plenty of shady arbours for a shaded cup of tea.

The village of Charlton is where WOMAD is held, but at other times it’s a delightfully sleepy place, quiet and rural but just four miles from the charming market town of Malmesbury.

Location

Bullocks Horn Cottage is in the village of Charlton, four miles out of Malmesbury, with its beautiful High Street. Malmesbury is the oldest borough in England with our first King (Ethelred) buried in the grounds of the 12-century Malmesbury Abbey. It's a 20 minute drive to Cirencester: in Roman times this was second only to London in size and its history is on display in the Corinium Museum, while it also has a lovely 12th century church. Twenty minutes also reaches Tetbury, with its antique shops, Chavenage, where much of Poldark was filmed, or Bath. Local attractions include Westonbirt Arboretum, Dyrham Park, Lacock, Tyntesfield and Highgrove Gardens (for which you need to book online).
